The Best New Retail in the US – June 2024

The vastness of the US means that retail can vary widely from state to state, so there is always something new and interesting to discover amongst the stores.

This month sees a number of first stores from online and DTC brands moving to the physical space.  Streetwear and resale brands are hoping that their pop-up popularity can translate to a permanent location, whereas some established retailers are revamping their offerings to appeal to new customers.

Find out what is on offer from the best new retail stores in the US this month.

Foot Locker, New Jersey

New Jersey is the location of the new global store concept from footwear retailer Foot Locker.

The brand has developed a new store layout to encourage customers to find items more easily, including adding recently released shoes and other trending items at the front of the store. There is a central area for customers to try on shoes, allowing for community and connection.

The store also includes a Sneaker Hub for customers to get custom laces, personalisation and other order options. Foot Locker will also enable staff to advise shoppers on available stock and a range of delivery options.

Detoure, LA

Following a series of highly successful pop-up events, resale fashion brand Detoure has launched its first new store.

The store works with influencers to resell their unwanted items via a Closet Drop. The influencers list all fashion items they are selling and then share them on social media. The pop-up events hosted by the brand used to go viral and have 100s of shoppers.

To extend the stock on offer, Detoure is also working with a number of brands that are popular with the Gen Z market, such as Beginning Boutique and Cider.

Wayfair, Wilmette

After decades as an online homeware retailer, Wayfair has opened its first physical space.

The store is large and has the feel of an Ikea store, with a number of different departments. Designer Alyssa Low has created a mural that references all the types of people and products that may be found in the space.

There is a Dream Center for mattresses and other bedroom items and a Market Square with a range of crockery and textiles. Customers looking for design advice can visit the Design Studio where Wayfair staff have been trained to provide expert guidance. Finally, The Porch is a café available for shoppers to relax with a hot drink and pastry.

For customers looking for a more bespoke service, the Bedroom DeZzzign Center allows them to create the perfect sleeping area.

Finally, the Bunkhouse has been designed for busy parents looking to browse while their children are entertained.

Represent, LA

Streetwear brand Represent has launched its first flagship store in the US, hoping to follow with stores back home in the UK.

The store is a stark minimalist space with specially created fixtures and fittings and furniture from Restoration Hardware. Customers will be able to find the brand’s core products, the new summer collection, and the Robertson Collection. The brand will also continue with its range of collaborations, having partnered in the past with Mötley Crüe and Metallica.

The store will change weekly, from the look and feel of the store to exclusive items available only in-store.

Glossier, Las Vegas

Millennial makeup and beauty brand Glossier has opened a new retail store in Las Vegas.

The store retains the pink that the brand is known for, but takes in elements of the location, giving the space a vintage but futuristic feel. Pale pink is paired with pastel green, and lights are dotted throughout for a soft look.

Products on offer include the brand’s own products, such as skincare, that are not routinely offered in other partner locations (such as with Sephora). There are also special Las Vegas themed items available, including rhinestone encrusted t-shirts.
