The Best New Retail in London – December 2024
Before we get too carried away with all the upcoming festive pop-ups, we wanted to share what some retailers are doing outside of the Christmas season. London has seen the arrival of some innovative and interesting new stores this month, with an eclectic range of ideas.
We’ve got two stores that take inspiration from the art gallery, either to share their curated art collections, or showcase their own products in different ways. Retailers also continue to offer additional services to tempt customers, from running clubs, to beauty treatments to personalisation.
We are also seeing more collaborations and partnerships, from including buzzy new designers in product ranges, to offering rotations to a select group of treatment providers.
Here is the best new retail that we’ve found this month in London.
Jacquemus, Mayfair
French luxury label Jacquemus has launched its new store in Bond Street, within a historic building that was once an art gallery.
The design of the store is neutral and relaxing, though the Jacquemus yellow colour is used as contrast. While the store has floors for womenswear, menswear and a VIP area, the most interesting aspect of the store is the art gallery.
Jacquemus has collected 50 artworks to showcase throughout the store, along with Jacquemus branded accessories in wall displays, blending art and product. The art pieces include sketches by Raoul Dufy and furniture by Josef Hoffman.
IKEA Restaurant, Hammersmith
The popular furniture brand IKEA has launched its first standalone restaurant in London, located next to its existing Hammersmith store.
The brand has taken over a former Wasabi restaurant venue and created a Scandi space with the IKEA blue used in the chairs and décor. The space can seat up to 75 people, and customers can also use the tables to work.
Customers can choose from a variety of Swedish food, including the famous meatballs, salmon, pasta, and breakfast options. To celebrate the launch of the restaurant, IKEA offered £5 vouchers to spend in store to IKEA Family Members who spent £5 in the restaurant.
Vuori, Regent Street
A new store arriving in London this month is from American athleisure brand Vuori – its first flagship in the UK.
The store is light and airy, using neutral colours with concrete, marble and light wood décor and fittings. The brand has also built an atrium with plants and a skylight to help visitors feel connected to nature.
Customers can find the complete Vuori range of products for men and women, across lifestyle and fitness, such as surfing and yoga. The brand also showcases its innovations in fabric design, including DreamKnit, which is breathable and keeps moisture away.
Vuori would like to connect with shoppers on a deeper level and is offering a range of activities for fitness and wellbeing enthusiasts. These include running clubs and wellness days.
Missoma, Carnaby Street
Missoma, a jewellery brand, has launched its latest store this month in London, which is its third in the UK.
The store is designed with contrasting cool and warm colours, including blue and green walls, and orange and tan dotted throughout. Other interesting details include large ceiling and wall to floor mirrors, a digital screen with animations, and terrazzo fixtures and fittings.
Visitors to the space will be able to purchase new jewellery pieces from collaborations with Harris Reed, Savi and Lucy Williams, as well as Missoma favourites. The store also offers a number of additional services such as piercing and welding in the downstairs studio space, and free engraving.
Grown Alchemist, Soho
Luxury skincare brand Grown Alchemist has launched a new flagship store in Carnaby Street, which is its first outside Australia.
The store is elegant and calming with touches throughout to engage with customers through multiple senses. There are plants throughout, including a window display, to clean the air of toxins. There is also a special scent that was created for the store, as well as an EDM playlist to invigorate customers.
Customers can choose from a range of products, including via skin analysis from technology beauty company Revieve. They can also have a wide variety of beauty treatments, including facials and devices to tone skin. Grown Alchemist has created an Alchemists in Residence programme to partner with other brands, which includes REVIV, a personalised nutrition company, and Anthony Mayes, a barber.
IKEA Hus of FRAKTA pop-up, Oxford Street
The second entry on the list from Swedish furniture brand IKEA – in the form of a pop-up!
The new pop-up is a celebration of the blue FRAKTA bag, an iconic IKEA staple owned by many households, as well as a new store opening in spring 2025. Visitors can enjoy an immersive experience of being inside the blue bag, with ASMR sounds and mirrored walls.
Blue Edit is a gallery display of items that are a tribute to the FRAKTA bag, to give the feel of a luxury store. Customers can also buy some of the items they see here in the Curated Collection, including the DOMSTEN stool. At the Atelier, shoppers can have a bag personalised and this service is free to IKEA Family members.
Finally, the brand is offering free blue candy floss from a candy floss wall. The pop-up will be open until March 2025.
H&M, Stratford
Fashion retailer H&M has refreshed its store in Westfield Stratford City to launch a new concept.
The store has new digital experiences added to help customers have a more joined-up shopping experience.
There are new changing rooms fitted with smart technology. The mirrors can provide style guidance by recognising the products customers are trying on. Shoppers can also use the interactive screens to request additional items to try on, including in different sizes and colours, or they can order them through the website.
H&M has also fitted mobile checkouts so that customers can complete their purchases at any point in the store.
