The Best New Retail in London – September 2024

London has a wide range of eclectic retail from practical to luxury, and the stores we have found this month are no different.

The main theme for retail this month is premium, through the store design, in-store services or both. This creates a luxury and bespoke experience for visitors, who can not only buy an item, but take part in a tasting, receive a consultation, or personalise a product.

We also found a store that is taking into account city surroundings and the busy lives of its customers, by offering a practical service aimed at getting them what they need more quickly.

Finally, fun pop-ups are still a way to engage with customers and bring in new ones, by providing a new way to experience and experiment with product ranges.

Here are the best new stores in London this September.

Screwfix City

Trade tool brand Screwfix has launched a new store concept across a range of areas in London, including Camden and Islington, with plans to expand further.

The store is aimed at tradespeople who may face challenges buying goods in London, such as traffic, parking or needing to stop a job for an emergency part. The store includes over 3,000 items available using click and collect, but there is a wider range of items online that can be collected the next day.

Screwfix is also offering another new service from these locations, Screwfix Sprint, which delivers items in under an hour.

Trinny London, Chelsea

Following a number of successful pop-ups, beauty brand Trinny London opened its debut store on King’s Road this month.

The store exterior is the brand’s signature bright yellow, and the interior is soft neutrals with accents in silver, yellow and pink. Visitors can explore the product tables with digital enhancements, such as QR codes and interactive elements, to help them create a skincare routine. There is also a Meet Your Match room for customers to pick from a range of makeup sets, organised according to skin undertones. There is also the ability to digitally “try on” products.

In the downstairs studio, shoppers can book a range of services, including skincare consultations, skincare analysis, facials and makeup lessons.

Hackstons, Knightsbridge

Premium spirits brand Hackstons has launched its first physical space at William Street.

The store is an elegant shade of blue, with a walnut and marble interior, designed to look and feel luxurious. There is artwork throughout showcasing the whisky craft process.

Visitors can start in the whisky room which contains a collection of premium whiskies, with each bottle individually lit. There is also a wider selection of wines on shelves in the store, as well as a tasting library.

For those wanting a bespoke service, consultations and private tasting sessions are available to book, and the brand hopes to also host supper clubs and other events.

Myrqvist, Westminster

The first international store from Swedish shoe brand Myrqvist launched in London this month.

The store reflects its Scandinavian roots, with light wood, leather detailing and a minimalistic aesthetic. The leather used in the store’s design is the same as that used in the shoes in an effective piece of branding.

Myrqvist has spread the store over two floors, with the street level floor showcasing the brand’s collection of Goodyear Welted shoes. Downstairs, customers can access the made to order services, personalisation and personal fitting sessions.

Fenty Hair X Selfridges

Cult beauty brand Fenty opened a hair pop-up in Selfridges until 28 September.

The pop-up, called Mane Street, was a takeover of Selfridges’ Corner Shop and includes several zoned areas. There was the Fenty Flower Market for hair styling sessions, where customers could test products and get inspiration from a lookbook. At the Hair Heaven Salon, visitors could get hair styles and treatments, along with a makeup look. To purchase Fenty’s hair, beauty and skincare ranges, customers could visit the Fenty Hair Supply Store, and the Gloss Bomb Shop for the full Fenty Beauty lip gloss range.

To celebrate the pop-up, the brand launched a new set of travel products and mini versions of popular products, including The Comeback Kid. It also offered tote bags, mini products and scrunchies with certain purchases.

London has a wide range of eclectic retail from practical to luxury, and this month’s openings are no exception with a focus on premium – through the store design, in-store services or both.
