The Best New Retail in Los Angeles – September 2024

Los Angeles has always had an attraction for retailers and for customers due to its iconic cinema history and large celebrity population.

Architecture is a big feature for retailers this month, with some brands taking over historical buildings and others secluding themselves behind hidden doors. Zoning is also another key trend as retailers try to layout stores like homes, or use dramatic interiors to separate off areas.

Retailers continue to try and make their spaces somewhere a customer wants to spend time, not merely browse. We’ve found stylists, tailors, video games and bars offered as additional attractions for visitors.

Read on to find out the best new retail in Los Angeles in September.

Givenchy, Rodeo Drive

Luxury brand Givenchy has moved into the iconic Frank Lloyd Wright building designed in the 1950s, a nod to the Givenchy founder’s interest in architecture.

The white building, known previously as the Anderton Court Shops, now sports the Givenchy flag, attached to a spire at the top of the building. The spaces which were once separate stores have been maintained, allowing Givenchy to separate out womenswear, menswear, and accessories. Original features, such as flooring and fireplaces, have been restored.

The store launched with the Givenchy Plage collection and Autumn/Winter 2024 pre-collection. There are also a number of limited edition items to fit with a rodeo theme, such as cowboy boots and a mini Antigona bag.

Never Fully Dressed, Melrose Avenue

Popular and eclectic British fashion brand Never Fully Dressed has also arrived in Los Angeles.

The store is inspired by island life and travel, with natural stone walls and palm tree designs, to provide a relaxing space that contrasts with the bright clothing. Sustainability is also important, with the wallpaper being reused from a previous fashion shoot in Majorca. Customers can also look at prints to find out more about the collections, Lisbon and Crafted Ibiza.

For customers looking for a more personalised service, an appointment with a stylist can be booked for advice on fit and other style tips and tricks.

Banana Republic, Westfield Century City

Banana Republic has refreshed its Los Angeles store to bring in a new concept.

The store is designed in neutral shades for a coastal aesthetic and includes curated artwork. The layout resembles a house with “rooms” of carefully chosen products and objects.

Customers can expect to find Banana Republic’s full fashion line across its August collection and the BR Classics range. There is also the BR Home range of Servane Mary art pieces, cashmere pillows, towels and candles.

The fitting area is styled to look like a living room and there is also a bar for customers to access, as well as an in-house tailor.

Hypland, Little Tokyo

After a series of successful pop-ups, streetwear and anime brand Hypland has opened its first physical boutique.

The store is a large expansive space with unique fixtures and vintage homewares, with Hypland hoping to connect with the local community, and create a space for people to relax with video games while shopping.

Customers can purchase streetwear fashion, including from Hypland’s past collections, manga magazines, consoles and other gaming accessories. There are plans to host other events and activations as well as partner with local businesses.

Departamento

A second store is launching from luxury menswear brand Departamento.

To get to the store, customers have to find a secret door in the coffee shop, Concierge Coffee.

They then have to navigate a portal filled with mirrors to make their way to the store itself, which has an industrial and modern feel. Mirrors are also included throughout the space to spotlight particular collections and large metallic curved sculptures section off areas.

Customers will find a curated selection of products from designers LOEWE, The Row and Wales Bonner, amongst others. The brand has also partnered with Taiga Takahashi and created a shop within a shop, a small Japanese inspired space to stock his latest collection.

Autumn dates for retail trend tours are now super limited – get in touch today to book a dose of inspiration before the end of the year.
